DIY Natural Cleaning Recipes I Use to Keep My Home Fresh Every Day

DIY Natural Cleaning Recipes – Eco-Friendly Home Cleaning Solutions

I’ve always liked the idea of a fresh, clean home — but chemical cleaners used to give me headaches and dry my hands badly. One day I tried a simple vinegar-and-lemon mixture, and honestly, that was the turning point. Since then I’ve slowly built my entire cleaning routine around natural ingredients.

These DIY cleaning mixes are not fancy. They’re cheap, effective, and safe enough for my kitchen counters, floors, bathroom tiles and even glass surfaces.

I personally use these recipes at home every week, and I hope they help you too.

1. My everyday all-purpose cleaner (my favourite)

I call this my “hero cleaner” because I use it everywhere.

What I use:

  • 1 part white vinegar
  • 1 part water
  • Lemon peels (leftover from cooking)

How I make it:

I fill a glass bottle with lemon peels, add vinegar, let it sit for 3–4 days, then dilute with equal water. The smell is fresh and feels natural.

This cleaner works perfectly on kitchen counters, bathroom sinks, tiles and even my dining table.

2. My go-to bathroom & tile cleaner

For bathroom tiles, soap scum and mild stains, baking soda has become my best friend.

Mix I use:

  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • A few drops of natural soap
  • Warm water

I gently scrub with a brush — it removes stains without harsh chemicals.

3. Glass & mirror cleaner

This is the easiest recipe in the world.

  • 1 part water
  • 1 part vinegar
  • A tiny drop of mild soap

Spray → wipe with microfiber cloth → streak-free shine.

4. Natural floor cleaner (smells so fresh)

I mix:

  • A bucket of warm water
  • A spoon of natural liquid soap
  • A few drops of essential oil (lavender or lemon)

This leaves the floor smelling clean without any strong chemical fragrance.

This habit also goes well with my other eco-friendly routines:

5. How natural cleaning fits into my zero-waste lifestyle

Most of these ingredients — vinegar, baking soda, lemon peels — are already present in most homes. So instead of buying 4–5 plastic bottles of different cleaners, I use just a few natural ingredients.

This also helped reduce my trash big time, similar to the changes I wrote in my zero-waste guide:
